Swedish massage is one of the most well-known massage techniques, using gliding strokes, percussion, kneading, vibration, tapping and rolling. It is usually used with massage oil or lotion, often providing additional aromatherapy benefits. The goals of Swedish massage are generally relaxation, improved circulation, and nerve stimulation, all or some of which can alleviate stress, boost immune function, and reduce pain. A typical Swedish massage session covers the full body.
Deep tissue massage uses massage techniques directed at the muscle and connective tissue below the skin's surface. It targets chronic muscle tension and spasms and works to break up tight bands of tissue that restrict blood flow and cause muscle stiffness and pain. Involves slow strokes, direct pressure or friction movements that go along and across the muscle grain. Depending on the length of the session, deep tissue massage may focus on specific areas of the body with a treatment focus.
Specialized injury therapies to one or more areas to improve active pain-free range of motion, increase circulation, manage pain, and relax muscles. Massage techniques may include effleurage, petrissage and/or tapotement (stroking, compression, percussion). May be billed to Washington Labor & Industries (L&I) with a valid prescription from the treating physician.
Pre-natal massage is specifically tailored to the needs of expecting mothers in a customized Swedish massage techniques. Extra care is taken to provide safe and comfortable positioning and draping. As pregnancy progresses, women often suffer from physical and emotional stress, Massage can help her to relax, reduce muscle fatigue and tension, and promote circulation to the baby.
Sports massage is targeted to support warm-up and recovery before and after physical exertion. Sports massage techniques focus on preventing injuries by warming up muscles and joints, stretching, and improving joint function and range of motion. Sports massage can enhance performance and support cellular recovery post-event. Not an athlete? That's OK! Sports massage helps the weekend warriors, gardeners, and home improvers who take the extra step of self-care. Sports massage is performed fully clothed.
Hot stones can be added to any massage service to boost the benefits with thermal therapy. Smooth, flat, basalt stones (river rocks) are heated to a comfortable temperature and placed on areas of the body over a towel or sheet or in the therapists hands with massage strokes. The goal of hot stone massage is to warm an area to allow for deeper massage, especially to areas that are tight.
